Plane Crash Survivors Saved From Mid Pacific Flight
Thirty three survivors of a mid Pacific air crash were rescued by the carrier Rendova off Johnston Island as the Navy halted search efforts for four missing crew. Captain Lane reported all survivors aboard and believed the four missing perished, with two men going down with the nether died, amid cheers from rescued sailors. The Rendova fast boated to the scene after liferafts were seen by a patrol plane about 490 miles southwest of the atoll and 717 miles west-southwest of Honolulu.

Drinking Party Ends In Tragedy In Belleville Indiana
In Hendricks County a 46 year old Belleville trucker Lester Crow shot his wife Gladys and wounded Warne Bell after a drinking party at Crow's home. Crow said jealousy triggered the attack and that his wife and Bell had driven away to fetch wine, returning intoxicatedly before the shooting. Gladys Crow died, Warne Bell was in critical condition at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
