Death of Charles G. Ross Mourned at White House
Charles G. Ross died at his desk near the President’s office after years as Truman’s press secretary and adviser. Newsmen who knew him since 1945 recalled his role as go-between for the press and the White House, his learning and vast experience, and the personal loss felt by colleagues and the President. Ross, born in Independence, Missouri, and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate, left the St. Louis Post-Dispatch to serve in the White House.

Ansel Ashley Dies Tuesday at 14 in Witham Hospital
Ansel A Ashley aged 14 died Tuesday afternoon at Witham Hospital after a two year illness. Last rites set for Friday at 2 PM in Central Christian church by Rev Fred W Wolff, burial at Oak Hill cemetery. Survived by wife Ivis Hedge, two children, two grandsons, five brothers and two sisters, mother Anna Ashley, and a host of relatives. He was a deacon at Lebanon Central Christian church and worked 15 years at Indiana Condensed Milk, also Boone County Hardware.

Auxiliary Will Assist Students
Mrs Gertrude MacArthur chair of the Education of Orphans for Veterans program of the American Legion Auxiliary today announced scholarships are available. She asks those needing aid to contact her to sustain educational assistance for American children. The program was initially for children of World War I dead and was extended to include needy and ambitious children of all veterans. Applicants for business or vocational training must be financially unable to attend college, have high school scholarship, and have their school’s program approved by the scholars committee. Mrs MacArthur notes only two Boone county scholarships have been awarded and urges eligible students to apply.

Marines Break Ring At Hagaru Do Notch Southward
