The United States began withdrawing its first troops from South Viet Nam since 1962. Air Force jets carried 220 servicemen to Honolulu with 1,000 more to follow in nine days. Post Office Extends Hours For Christmas Season
The local post office will stay open all day Thursdays and Saturdays, then extend daily hours to 6:00 p.m. starting Monday December 16. About 20 extra Christmas assistants will be hired. Rural patrons should mail early and stamp Christmas mail promptly. Local and Out of Town labels will be provided, and two window clerks may be on duty. Mail accepted for delivery up to 7:30 a.m. December 24.
Metropolitan District Establishes Three School Board Districts
A joint resolution by Boone County and Hamilton County commissioners creates three trustee districts for the Marion-Adams Metropolitan School District. Districts one to three cover Marion Township Boone County and Sheridan Adams Township Hamilton County with populations kept nearly equal.
