City budget shows a total levy of 86 cents for 1926, with a five cent reduction from 1924, totaling about 62,614.60 in taxes. General fund 67 cents, library 4 cents, park 5 cents, sinking fund 10 cents. Utilities and salaries listed, school levy set at 1.30 for 1926 to cover bonds, salaries, and repairs.
World War Memorial Commission calls a special session in Indianapolis for Friday to consider removing Walker and Weeks of Cleveland for alleged conflicts with a steel supplier tied to Memorial Plaza. Lawrence Orr seeks license revocation of the firm, which would bar continued work on the memorial. Orr’s inquiry reviews construction by Craig-Curtis of Cleveland for 339820 dollars and plans by the Cleveland architects.
Boone County Duartsey Calf Club members and parents will hold a meeting and picnic at Memorial Park Friday evening. Howard Adair, club president, announced the plan with a rain contingency for the Chamber of Commerce hall. Mr. East from the Pennsylvania Railroad dairy department will distribute ribbons and merit ribbons will be awarded to all calf exhibitors. members are to fill record books and outline calf feed and care stories up to the show.
Rome reports two of a ten person tour party are believed dead after an underground cascade in the Pinguente caves of Istria. Eight survivors were found by rescuers who used magnesium flares to penetrate a barred corridor, while two remain missing, believed to have fallen into the cascade.
More than three hundred reservations have been made by Group Five Rotary clubs for the annual outing at the Alen Country Club tomorrow. Local leaders list attendees from Crawfordsville Frankfort Greencastle Indianapolis Lafayette ferre Haute Lebanon with events including golf horseshoes bridge and a luncheon. Principal speakers include Arthur Sapp Ben Sherwood and Henry C Ulen with greetings from Lebanons Kiwanis and a larger crowd expected than any previous Group Five meeting.
Prof L A Pittenger urged more civic training for teachers during a county institute address on Social Control at the high school. He said schools must help taxpayers solve problems and democracy will fail without schooling in civic matters. He warned Indiana has too many laws and urged teachers to stay grounded while raising civic awareness. He noted citizens are constantly watched by government from birth to death and advocated careful social control that preserves natural development.
Chicago reports 19 cents a gallon on average in the Mississippi valley with local wars driving some stations to as low as 17 cents. L. V. Nicholas of the National Petroleum Marketers Association says further reductions are likely due to higher crude production and refining gains, aided by California shipments via the Panama Canal undercutting Oklahoma rail routes.

Clarence Jackson of Newcastle was elected state commander and Bowman Elder of Indianapolis national executive committeeman from Indiana. Acclamations sealed both top offices as the gathering closed.
New Haven reports that fifteen film exchanges began packing up their possessions and preparing to move out of the state. Lester S. Tobias, manager of a major exchange, said Connecticut will be as free of films as Goldsmith's deserted village after the upcoming Saturday.
Washington reports a turret drill accident aboard the U S S Oklahoma en route from New Zealand to Samoa. One man was killed and another seriously injured. Navy officials had not yet received further details by radio today.
A Lebanon father, after a year of effort to reform his son Paul Harden, 16, trading on deceitful bank balances and a spree of bad checks, turned him over to Boone county authorities. The boy had used his first job to finance a running cycle of fraud, including selling a car and buying a gold watch. The case could lead to incorrigibility charges and commitment to Plainfield.
John E. Frederick of Kokomo, president of the state Chamber of Commerce, seeks a September meeting to mobilize clubs, civic groups, chambers, and industries in a statewide survey to promote Indiana as an industrial and economic center. J. S. Johnson of Evansville leads initial steps through the Indiana Commercial Secretaries' Association and aims to organize a mass advertising plan after a survey of what to promote.
Chicago August 26 Chinese quarters in many cities faced police sieges as tong wars flare but now appear checked. Five deaths and many injuries and arrests reported as Hig Sington gunmen from New York allegedly planned an attack on On Leong tong. Other killings occurred in New York Baltimore Boston Pittsburgh and Minneapolis with deportation actions promised in New York Philadelphia and Newark.
Plans for a 1.7 million dollar chapel on the University of Chicago campus were unveiled after a construction contract was signed. The tower will reach 205 feet with a cathedral scale, and the building is to be a pinnacle of American architecture, funded in part by John D. Rockefeller’s gift.
The 95th annual Western Indiana Christian Conference opened at Christian Liberty church near Lebanon with four to five hundred delegates in attendance. More than thirty churches from eight counties are represented. The opening address by German Eldredge of Dayton outlined church achievements and future responsibilities, with Eldredge and Dr. W. P. The Lebanon Girl Scouts and Jamestown Campfire Girls will host a scout and Campfire crafts exhibit in connection with the Red Men Pow-wow at Memorial Park Thursday morning. Fifteen dollars in prizes will be awarded across two athletic contests including a 40 yard dash and a shoe race, plus exhibits of ceremonies and crafts by both groups.
The Girl Scouts are asked to meet Thursday morning at 9:08 in the circle by the tennis courts at Memorial Park to join the Red Men's Pow Wow contests. They should bring all materials for the exhibition.
Eight Boone nation tribes plan a big pow wow at Memorial Park in Lebanon featuring parades and performances, with 1500 members expected and many families traveling. An all day program includes bands, contests, tennis, baseball, exhibits, and numerous concessions.
Coach Paul Church mobilizes Lebanon school for football season and gymnasium use. He urges players and dates to attend morning workouts at 9 o clock Thursday as intensive practice opens. Kr Lewis H Pickett, Wabash graduate, will assist in coaching the football candidates.
