Mrs Harry Bohannon suffered a serious brain injury after losing balance while on a rear platform of a passenger train near East street. She fell to the street as the train passed Mast street, was found unconscious, then moved to Williams hospital for treatment.
Reports from all parts of the city in the past week indicate a promising wheat outlook. A recent deep freeze did not severely damage fields, with green tops and strong vitality visible. County acreage is large. if rust is avoided, yield is expected to be excellent and profitable.
An explosion at a Tipton ice plant noon yesterday caused by a battery of boilers shattered the city. J. M. Russell, owner, faced about 25000 in losses. Only one man, Charles Covert the eagle, was inside the plant and survived after being blown by steam and water in the cages. He carried only the amount of steam and water he had. The plant is located in a residential area.
A 500 pound crane smashing through the roof of John Craig’s East Jefferson Street house badly damages the residence while he and his family were away at a hotel. Windows shattered citywide and a curious flood of sightseers followed. Cicero Creek fish floated to the surface after the blast and were collected by bystanders. The ice plant is demolished but operations will resume at the old site.
Worley Osborn, jailed in Howard county Indiana for the killing of Fairy Mc Clain Miller, says he does not want his father to pay defense costs or the county to incur more expense. He favors pleading guilty only if assured of no hanging, with six days left in the circuit term as his family and he debate life imprisonment over the death penalty while he attends church rather than stay in his cell.
Relatives and friends surprised Mrs. John Reynolds at her home one and one half miles north of town as she attended church. About thirty guests hosted an elegant meal and presented gifts including a diamond from her husband. Parents Mr and Mrs Martin and Mr and Mrs Fred Martin attended.
Everett Merrill, wanted for seeking a ransom in the Lillian Wulff kidnapping, was captured in Merrillville Indiana after a led escape from Mt Ayr woods. He denied the ransom attempt but admitted knowledge of the girl’s theft by William and Irene Birmingham. The Birminghams are imprisoned in Ninols State Prison. Merrill faces possible death sentence if convicted.
Twenty Lebanon ladies arrange a Thursday afternoon reception in the Methodist church parlors in honor of piano artist Mr Boxall, secured by Prof Tison and Miss Perking to present a recital Thursday evening.
Dr J G Knowlton died at Hahnemann Hospital in Chicago following a cerebrospinal meningitis after nose surgery. His funeral will be at Central Christian church in Lebanon on Tuesday at 2 p.m., with interment at Oak Hill cemetery. He was born October 20 1880 in Boone county and leaving a widow Grace Neal, one daughter Mrs Frank D Kern, and siblings.
Yesterday at noon James Loula Adair, a well known Frankfort real estate man, died suddenly at his home 60 North Columbia Street. He suffered in recent weeks from an illness resembling influenza but remained at work until his death due to heart trouble without warning.
Mrs Mary Colgrove wife of Charles B Colgrove died this morning at her home near Monrovia Morgan county after a nine month illness of consumption. She was fifty two and leaves three children Blanche Pennington Carl and Forest. Her father John Wood survives at Lafayette. Burial at Brown's Wonder with the funeral conducted by Rev A Brown. She was a member of the First Christian Church at Brown's Wonder.
The Rev John Burden colored pastor of Lebanon and Thorntown A M E churches died in Thorntown after two weeks of illness from typhoid pneumonia. He leaves a wife and several children. The body will be taken to Terre Haute for funeral and interment on Wednesday afternoon.
Easter Sunday marked the forty eighth birthday of H. C. Carr of 227 East Fordice Street. Friends and relatives gathered for a surprise visit after a tour of the new school building site, then returned to a dinner in the dining room. Attendees included Esquire McKinley and granddaughter from Pilizaville, Dally and wife, James Kevans and family, and others.
Lloyd Tomlinson, eighteen, son of Mr and Mrs Law Tomlinson, was injured in a runaway near Whites town while driving a colt to a cart. He recalls nothing of the accident and with minor injuries remains under a physician’s care at Cragan home. The horse and cart were found near Cal Crawford’s.
Easter at multiple churches drew big audiences with special music. Methodist and Baptist choirs joined for cantatas in morning and evening services. Central Christian and Presbyterian churches also featured cantatas and notable sermons. Knight Templars attended the Presbyterian service where Mr. Carmichael spoke on Life's Fulfillment from Acts 2:4, urging belief in a four square city and personal fulfilment.
Bitter feeling marked a Saturday primary to name delegates for the county Republican convention on May 2 in Crawfordsville Indiana. Union township went to Landis slate led by John R Bonnell with 18 delegates while anti Landis forces won 17. Out townships split honors.
The Jones family held its annual reunion on Sunday at the home of James W. Jones in Advance. Sixty six members attended and a large dinner was served. The day was spent enjoying family fellowship and activities.
Kleumr Dye underwent a surgical operation at his home in Charlotte North Carolina last Friday. His wife, summoned home from here, reached his bedside Friday night. A letter from relatives reports that Mr.
State Senator John C. Farber of Frankfort died at his East Clinton street home after a ten day illness from liver and kidney trouble. A Thorntown native educated at Miami University, Farber served as city attorney, practiced law, and held a long political career including a term as joint senator from Clinton and Carroll counties. He was born in Xenia Ohio on January 3, 1856 and survived by his wife Margaret Sims and three sons Benjamin, Will, and John C. Farber Jr. He was active in the Presbyterian church and Knights of Pythias.
In Pittsboro Indiana on a Saturday Democratic delegates from Boone and Hendricks counties nominated Thomas Carlos of Brownsburg for joint senator by acclamation. Carlos thanked the convention and pledged to serve without factional control if elected.
All delegates and others attending the Democratic congressional convention at Kokomo on Wednesday April 22 are asked to leave Lebanon on the 7 22 interurban car for Frankfort and take a special car on the Clover Leaf Railroad at 9 05 to Kokomo returning.
