Three accidents occurred Friday in Hershey resulting in over 700 dollars in damage and two people admitted to Hershey Hospital. Events at East Chocolate Avenue and Wilson Avenue, Park and West Chocolate Avenues, and East Chocolate Avenue and Mansion Road involved six drivers including JoAnn Steck Herman Still dia Geraldine Moulton Donald S Hedding Mabel Souder Darrrens Rhine and their families with injuries varying from observation to admissions. Patrolmen Warlaw Hack and Mrnovich investigated.

First Woman Heart Transplant Dies After Operation
Dallas UPI report records the death of Esther Matthews, 41, a Black housewife and the world’s first woman heart transplant recipient. The four and a half hour surgery at Parkland Memorial Hospital was conducted by the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School team. Donor Bobby Wayne Blocker, 26, of Buless, Texas, died from injuries in an auto crash Wednesday. This marked the world’s first woman heart transplant and the fifth in Texas.

Hershey resident Mrs Barrow Dies After Illness
Mrs Julia V Barrow 64 of 1332 E Chocolate Ave Hershey died this morning at Harrisburg Hospital after a three year illness. A Leesburg native she was the daughter of the late Charles D and Laura Russell Bolan. From 1952 to 1964 she owned and operated Barrow Nursing Home Palmdale. A 1928 graduate of Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing she belonged to Trinity United Church of Christ Palmyra and the Hershey Order of the Eastern Star. Survived by her husband Samuel W a son Richard B Shupp of Oreland a sister Merle Keim of Annville a brother Harvey Bolan and one grandchild.

Paris police detained multiple carloads of students amid a deteriorating national strike. Palmyra Youth Drowns in Twisting Pa Creek
The body of a Sonan youth was recovered by Randy Wolf and the Union Deposit crew after a drowning in a turbulent muddy creek near Palmyra. Rescue units from Hershey Union Depot Hummelstown and Middletown assisted the search directed by Hershey Fire Chief Robert Raffensperger. The victim, a Palmyra Area Senior High School special education student, died at Harrisburg Hospital. He is survived by his parents three sisters and his maternal grandmother.

Four Youths Steal Purse Then Suspect Commits Suicide
Four youths aged 12 to 14 allegedly stole a local girl’s purse in a road near Cold Spring game reserve. A note said the suspect planned self harm and after a brief encounter with military policemen, he entered his car and shot himself. The deceased, 18, was an insurance agent and former Navy musician who served aboard USS Enterprise. He left behind his parents and sister Lois.
