A daring theft at Charles L. Thomas of 512 W Main ended when a thief unhooked a front screen door and slipped inside while the couple slept. Mrs. Thomas grabbed the trousers with 18 one dollar bills and a gold watch as the suspect fled south on Lafayette Ave. Police had earlier chased a man matching the same description near the Butcher and Hartman residences, but the prowler remained at large after the night of near-capture and several suspicious sightings around town.
