Albert Shawber, 45, publisher of the Darlington Beta and former Echo editor, died from injuries after slipping on ice coated steps at the rear of his printing office. A compositor heard groans and carried him inside, but he died soon after despite medical care. The family lived in Darlington with two young children.

Prohibition Amendment Fails in House Vote
The Hobson resolution to submit a constitutional amendment for national prohibition to state legislatures failed in the House 197 to 196. Party lines dissolved as leaders from both parties joined in opposing the measure, with 114 Democrats 67 Republicans 11 Progressives and 4 Independent Republicans voting for the resolution. Death of Collin W. Daugherty in Thorntown at 90
Collin W. Daugherty, 90, died at midnight Tuesday at the Thorntown home of his daughter Mrs. Mose Brown. Funeral services set for 2:50 p.m. Thursday at the daughter’s home with burial in Old Cemetery. He was born Sept 16, 1924 in Ohio and longtime Thorntown resident. Surviving children include Hattie Winterroad and Samantha Harlin, both of Ohio, Charles Daugherty and Mose Brown of Thorntown, plus sister Mrs. Miramus Harris of South Bend. He was a veteran of the Eleventh Indiana Infantry and a member of the Thorntown Methodist Church. Rev. H. A. Bender will lead services.
