Lumber rates to rise in Washington trade shock
The piece warns that Washington lumber and shingles may rise 10 cents per 100 pounds with an October or November shift, adding 3.30 per 1000 feet of lumber. It cites 80,000 carloads affected, a potential 45 million dollar loss, and notes many dealers will switch to substitutes as profits remain slim. It projects widespread regional impact across many states and stresses the mounting costs in a fragile industry.
