Rail unions order nationwide strike October 30
Chicago, Oct 15 More than half a million railroad workers are ordered to strike October 30 with up to 2 million more unions reportedly preparing to join. The walkout would affect 42 of 48 states and 73,000 miles of track, aiming to halt mail and freight service unless wage disputes are resolved. Leaders warn violence will not be tolerated as the plan unfolds in four progressive groups from October 30 to November 2.

In Wallula Washington a mummified Indian chief was uncovered buried in his canoe behind the Wallula Hotel site. The grave, at least sixty years old, held vermillion war paint, an earthenware pot of paint, beads and relics. Four nearby graves were found six years ago nearby.
