Chittenden Plans Columbia River Channel Clearing

Major H. M. Chittenden of the engineers in Washington has perfected plans to clear the Columbia River channel through the Entiat and Methow rapids. Workmen will be employed during the low water season and rocks blocking the channel will be blown out with dynamite. Congress has appropriated funds for the river’s improvement from its mouth to the Okanogan, with $42,000 set for Wenatchee to Brewster, most of which will fund the Entiat and Methow rapids. If wisely used, the rapids should become comparatively safe.
