Slide risk tied to denuded mountains after burns
H. T. Hansen and Walter Hellan returned Tuesday from Wellington where they viewed the slide from a forest ranger perspective. Their observation supports the belief that slides are likelier where mountains have been stripped of timber by fire. Bare, burned slopes and regrowth hinder slides, while thick brush and young trees help prevent them.
