Great Northern Sued Over Death of Engineer
Mrs. Adaline Donaldson, mother of engineer Vance H. Thoms, won $8,500 from the Great Northern in Everett for the fatal boiler explosion near Cascade Tunnel last November. She sued for $20,000, alleging railroad negligence caused the blast. The trial featured Snohomish county’s largest exhibit, a 1600 pound crown sheet, shown Tuesday before the jury. Engineer Thoms was a longtime resident of the city.

City Council Passes Salary Cut for Day Marshall
The council approved Ordinance No. 138 over the mayor’s veto reducing the day marshal salary from 100 to 90 dollars a month after a six month dispute. Attorney Fox said Sampson will earn 100 dollars per month until year end. after that the successor would receive 90 dollars. Night marshal Ryan remains at 85 dollars. Patrick Gallagher Electrocuted In Tumwater Accident
Patrick Gallagher a 25 year old electrical worker for Tumwater Light and Water Co. died after contact with a 2500 volt live wire on Commercial street near the Congregational church. Gallagher fell from a pole while climbing with climbers. his body hung for several minutes before being lowered. The Portland electrical workers union arranged burial expenses and Cascade Undertaking Co. handled the body.

Patrick Hughes died last Monday night at age 84. He had lived with Mr. and Mrs. James Clark for five or six years and was born in Ireland in 1830. Funeral services were held in a Catholic church and he was buried in Leavenworth cemetery.

The Masonic hall on the north side of the track is near completion and expected to be finished by mid July. Contractor L F Speidel says the project will cost over 5000 dollars and will be the finest building of its kind in central Washington. Local Masons donate labor while others support the project in various ways. A worker for Herman Stoltze’s sewer project escaped serious harm after being trapped by sand and rock, saved by coworkers.
