Fire at C. H. Mason livery barn destroys rear buildings
A large fire last Saturday afternoon destroyed the C. H. Mason livery barn and attached dwelling quarters, with several Merriam properties at risk. Firefighting was hampered by a low water supply and hydrants that would not run, and the town faced widespread destruction if winds had shifted. Losses cited include about $1,000 for the Mason barn and contents and $200 for the Merriam dwelling, with insurance coverage noted on some structures.

Mr Fred L Brender of the Chumstick valley near Leavenworth has named his dairy Nine Deer Creamery after a local mountain legend. The herd of nine deer vanished years ago after roaming that peak and being pursued. Brender’s butter dairy supplies the city with a solid reputation and sells at 30 to 40 cents per pound year round. Brender came from Kansas and is pleased with the country.

Irrigation Plans Draw Interest Across Wenatchee Plain
U S engineer W G Steward visited Wenatchee to study Wenatchee Entiat and Chelan rivers for government irrigation. He said soon water could irrigate the Wenatchee Rock Island tract with power transmitted from Chelan or other Columbia streams. The Salt River Arizona project shows a dam 850 feet high and pumps to irrigate arid lands. The Wenatchee flat could rival the valley for fertility if federal irrigation advances.
