A morning blaze damaged six frame structures in the Lobby Saloon area, including the Clifford hotel and N B Day’s store, with total losses around 25000 dollars. Firefighters saved the Overland hotel brick core while Hutchings salvaged liquor worth about 2000 dollars.
J T McDonald supervised the Lamb-Davis Lumber Co. annual log drive on the Wenatchee river. The drive was large and economical despite low water. The Wenatchee Daily Republic suspended publication this week amid financial strain. Ray Ricker lost a finger at the Lamb-Davis box factory last Tuesday.
Pat Glynn testified against Joe Quaife after a drunken quarrel in which Quaife struck Glynn with a board and club, fracturing his skull. Judge Rice imposed $100 fine and 30 days in jail, with potential extension to about 65 days if fines are unpaid. Deputy Bohnsack tracked Quaife to the Peshastin Hotel where he was found in a room under a blanket.
The Leavenworth board toured the valley to review recent work on the south side road toward Pe shastin. Commissioner Gillette noted a concrete bridge at the Wenatchee river in Dryden and graveling of about three miles east of Pe shastin. He anticipates graveling the full Leavenworth Wenatchee stretch next year.
Operations on the Wenatchee Valley Northern began late this season due to initial lumber stockpiles. With river drives finished, logs stored off the line will be hauled to the mill pond to meet rising demand for lumber and box material. Mrs J S Judah and Mrs B C Rutherford hosted Tango club ladies for an evening of cards at Dr Judah's home.
Tumwater Light and Water Co announces a new Leavenworth lighting rate plan with a maximum rate cut from 13 to 10 cents per kilowat and proportional reductions across the board. Rates must be filed with the public service commission before taking effect, with full disclosure expected around July 1 if no intervening events occur.
Early Sunday a thief entered the Leavenworth Mercantile Co store through a back window and took clothing and shoes valued at 40 to 50 dollars. The manager suspects a local insider who knew the layout and may have helped by slipping the bolt during business hours. A similar theft occurred about a year ago.
Alph Wells and Miss Ruth Mitchell were honored at a kitchen shower hosted by Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Eyckmeyer Tuesday evening. About thirty young people attended and the couple, per Mrs. Grundy, plan to marry soon.
About forty youths gathered Friday at J L Maston residence to bid Miss Ethel farewell and wish her godspeed on her travel to her Indiana hometown.

Spokane officials oppose new saloon licenses under the city ordinance allowing 208. Three commissioners say no new licenses now while Mayor Hindley urges reducing to 150. With two licenses expired and not renewed, total saloons drop to 186 and more may close amid prohibition agitation.
Commencing this week the Lamb-Davis Lumber Co box plant will run twelve hours daily, up from twelve in twenty four, to meet strong demand for strawberry and cherry boxes and a likely rise in peach and apple box orders over the next three months in the valley.
On June 7 1904 a major blaze started in a frame building next to Leavenworth Mercantile Co and swept along Front Street destroying multiple two story houses. The Hill hotel at Eighth and Commercial suffered 7000 in value with contents, plus 2000 more in losses, and Smith & Tholin lost 8000. Total damage reached about 40000 with the Echo office narrowly saved after repeated fires. Water supply relied on Wenatchee River.
Mrs Florence Payne Canby died of Brigats disease at Minor hospital Seattle on May 28. She had taught in Leavenworth public schools and made her home here for years. Burial was in Port Townsend where her mother and sister reside. Her husband Mr Canby of Rock Island Illinois is en route to visit his sister Mrs L O Taylor.
