Peshastin Mill Co sells to a group of Montana operators led by J. C. Biles and J. T. McDonald. Transper of large property noted as part of the deal.
Sale of the Peshastin Mill Co holdings closes for £250,000. New owners led by A C Johnson Jr and E L Sawyer, backed by Louis Heitman, plan a Blewett mill of 75 000 feet daily, a 75 000 foot per day box factory at Peshastin, a timber stumpage of fifty million feet, a general store, school and cottages, and substantial lands. Foreman McDonald stays. Biles retires. Offices in Peshastin with Blewett store and mill.
Mrs L J Nelson announces the opening of a real estate office in Leavenworth in the former law office of her husband Lewis Nelson who died last week in Seattle. Mr Howe, long associated with the practice, will devote full time to law, while Mrs Nelson will run the real estate division.
Roy Campbell is held in the county jail pending investigation after information reached the sheriff and county attorney. Reports describe shocking details involving Campbell, a woman he has lived with, and her young daughter, with sufficient evidence to justify detention.
Camileo Alag, a Philippine section laborer at Chiwaukum, cut his throat Monday noon and died on arrival at the hospital from loss of blood. Dr. Hoxey treated him. he also had cuts on his breast. The motive or cause of the act was not disclosed.
Wenatchee World reports earnest efforts to advance the Teble water district plan while noting Leavenworth’s prior rights and unresolved boundary issues. East Wenatchee residents seek inclusion, engineers map the district, and river crossing questions arise as costs are allocated by user need. A Forest Service road project to Tebble dam site may speed construction and cut district costs.
Everett January 25 report of Duncan Textmeier who died in Providence Hospital after severe injuries from a shifting car incident at Great Northern Delta yards on January 6. He suffered amputation of one foot and had worked for the Great Northern fourteen years. He belonged to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Peninsular lodge of Masons. He leaves a widow, his mother, four brothers including Irving Tegtmeier of Seattle, and two sisters. Funeral held Monday in Everett.
At the school district bond election last Saturday afternoon there were 180 votes for bonding and 4 against, so the bonds carry and the board will sell them to finish the new building. Misses Conrad Erickson Wansbrough and Wade entertained at 500 at Mrs. Rohrbaugh’s home last Saturday evening with head prizes won by Mrs. LaPoint and Dr. C D Handbloom and consolation prizes by Mrs. Rohrbaugh and R. L. Rearick. An excellent luncheon was served.
The Service Club met last Thursday to discuss measures for the city. A rural route action was postponed and the village delivery of mail and sewer project were backed. A three member committee of Woodruff Hamilton and Taylor will visit city schools to cooperate with the school board on sewage improvements.
A Literary Club meeting notes members present with eight absent and a program including Miss Sybil Bowers on E A Robinson and Miss Helen Blankenship reading his poems. Upcoming program airs Edna Applegate on Chinese poetry and Florence Clemens on Ella Wheeler Wilcox. High School Glee Club practiced school songs. Domestic Science luncheon raised over eighteen dollars for equipment. Jacob and David Weber attended a cousin’s funeral in Chicago. A 7th grader wrote a poem about State Exams. Talks of a new bank in Teaville worth noting.
Earnest Jessup of Cashmere visits H. M. Downing reports the death of Horace Downing in Indiana Harbor due to influenza and pneumonia. Peshastin residents host a Ladies Aid social at Grange hall with a luncheon, and the Woodmen Lodge initiates a class of 26. crowds travel from Dryden, Cashmere, Leavenworth and beyond.
In Seattle on January 25 John Rejork aged 64 beloved husband of Martha T and brother of C G Rejork. Body at Butterworth Sons private reception room. Funeral date to be announced. Earlier Mr Rejork and wife left Leavenworth last Saturday en route to Seattle. He had long been local pioneer and one of the earliest settlers in the area.
Leavenworth Public Library announces 32 new titles in its latest acquisition list. The collection includes works by McCutcheon Rinehart Grey Williamson Putnam Bartlett Wright and Chambers, along with classics by Porter Conrad Norris and Galsworthy.
A committee visiting city schools found severe sewage problems with backing water in the grade building and insufficient drainage in the high and new buildings. They urged immediate temporary measures and a full sewer installation to protect pupil health and press parents to demand action.
