State Tax Commission backs public administrator law
The state tax commission asks the next legislature to create a public administrator in each county to handle estates with no heirs in the state and to curb probate costs. The plan, handled by the superior court, would appoint a resident attorney as administrator who would receive a fixed commission and work with the tax commission to collect inheritance taxes on deeds made before death. The measure aims to recover funds lost to double probate fees and unfiled taxes, with examples showing heirs receiving only a fraction after expenses.
