Better Oregon Workmen's Compensation Rates Compared
Statistician R J Hoage of the state industrial commission compares Oregon and Washington workmen compensation. If 2000 Washington claims were on Oregon basis payments would be 47.4 percent higher. Oregon provides medical aid and higher death benefits. In a typical fatal case a Washington widow of 30 with three children gets 20 and 5 per child, while Oregon would pay 30 and 6 with $100 funeral expense. Oregon total would be 8554.90 versus 4075 in Washington. The second item covers repeal efforts of the full crew law with strong railroad lobby and labor opposition claiming costs of $218000 yearly.
