National Forest Districts Created West Wide Reorganization
The Forest Service establishes six district offices in Denver Ogden Albuquerque Missoula San Francisco and Portland to oversee National Forests with local district foresters in each area. The move aims to speed decisions near the ground and expand field operations while transferring administration from Washington. Florida creates Ocala National Forest and North Dakota forms Dakota National Forest in Billings County marking a shift to broader forest administration across nine states plus Alaska.
