Heroic brakeman saves express at Dryden switch

He turned the switch to green, preventing a derailment of a crack passenger train near Dryden, and collapsed as the express passed. The act is being submitted to the Carnegie Medal Commission.

Lafean Bill Proposes Larger Northwest Apple Box
Congress considers the Lafean measure to set a new inside box size at 11x114x18% inches increasing cubic capacity by 195 cubic inches. It would raise box cost by 4 to 6 cents, boost fill value by 10 to 20 cents or more, raise packing costs, and reduce boxes per carload. Fruit growers oppose the change and seek to keep the current standard.
