Fenced Sheep Ranges Show Great Promise Against Predators

In Wallowa National Forest Oregon 2 200 sheep and lambs grazed without a herder behind a woven and barbed wire fence. Grizzlies breach the barrier though minor predators are kept out. A hunter reports six large grizzlies killed this season and private landholders like J W Emmons of Troy Oregon expand fencing with similar success. Weights of lambs from fenced flocks will be tracked to compare growth with unfenced ranges.

Electric light moth trap helps Saxon forest battle

A German report from Zittan describes a new electric light trap system at the municipal plant to capture brown nun moths. Two large reflectors and exhaust fans draw thousands of moths to a deep receptacle, yielding three tons captured in a single night. The plan aims to curb the caterpillar plague threatening local forests. The second item notes Bellingham with a proposed voter registration mandate and extreme penalties for noncompliance.
