Washington July 81 The Republican Publicity Association states higher freight rates are needed to restore railroads’ equipment and maintain an efficient transportation system. It cites past profits, the 1907 panic, federal takeover in 1917, widespread bankruptcies, and large depreciation of cars and lines, arguing renewed rates and private, well-regulated management are essential for national prosperity.
