Ab Jenkins to Attend Torture Test in Le Mars

World famous race driver Ab Jenkins will visit Le Mars to observe a brutal safety test by Blanc Oil Co and Firestone, using a car at 6 15 p m on Central Ave to demonstrate tubeless tires preventing loss of control after tire damage. Jenkins, former Salt Lake City mayor, promotes safe driving and will speak to groups when not testing. Also noted is Mrs. Wm Schreier in Fort Dodge hospital after a stroke, sister of Joe Lang of Remsen.

Ireton Woman In Red Cross

Mrs. Ruby Mulder of Alton former Ireton resident appears on the Red Cross Discussion Panel at Des Moines in October. She directed relief after the Alton flood and is noted as the former Ruby Vander Stoop. Other notes mention relatives and visitors from Moore Oklahoma and Hawai ian connections.

Sturges Joins Family Law Firm In Le Mars

William S. Sturges announced joining his father in the Sturges & Sturges law practice in Le Mars. A 1945 Le Mars High School graduate, he briefly attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln, served 10 months in Japan with the Air Force, earned a 1953 Nebraska degree, and passed the Iowa Bar in June last year after helping remodel the Plymouth Street office.

Le Mars youths enroll at Morningside and St Olaf Colleges

Local students including Miss Joan Nelson Miss Beulsh Schultz and Miss Donna Rees enroll at Morningside College to study nurse training with basic science pre clinical work at local hospitals. Other Le Mars students Joan Belk Audrey Lubben and Lt Harold Wiebhe attend St Olaf College with 1475 total enrollment. A pilgrim group plans a voyage to Rome aboard the U S S Hiawatha leaving Sioux City for New York on September 28 and returning November 15.

Beachler Bootery Sold to Chick Chicoine New Owner

Veteran manager O J Chickor­ne Chicoine completed negotiations this morning to purchase Beachler’s Bootery from widow Mrs E E Beachler. Chicoine will run the store as before, welcoming old and new customers, and occupies immediate possession. Caesarian Operation Performed In Butcher Shop

Hull butcher shop last week performed a caesarean on a hereford heifer afterworkers noticed the cow was with calf. Henry Van Engen assisted by Harvey Van Engen completed the operation successfully and delivered a thoroughbred bull call to Rich Rikhers shortly after.

Auction sells Henry Spiecker estate farm near Remsen

About 300 people attended the auction sale of the 2W acre Henry Spiecker estate farm two miles northwest of Remsen. The tenant Isidore Mayrose bought the property at $314 per acre after spirited bidding. Mayrose family has lived on the place eight years. The farm is well laid out and the buildings on the adjacent property are notable. Auctioneers were Staub and Klein. Delbert D. gainaty of Edworden was arrested on highway 75 near Siona City for reckless driving and fined $50.

New 3 Cent Stamp for Future Farmers of America Issued

The Post Office announces a 3 cent stamp celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Future Farmers of America. It features a Farm scene with a youth beneath a tree and the FFA emblem on his jacket. Stamp sales begin mid October 1953 at major offices and local post offices. Lieutenant Glen D. Schipper will assume command of Company 7 of the National Guard at Sheldon on September 21.

Shaeffer Couple Observe 63rd Wedding Anniversary

New Texaco Service Station to Be Built in Pew Town

A Texaco service station is planned along Highway 73 in Pew Town with one fueling island and space for a second. Leo Nemaiers, contractor, filed plans last week. two large storage tanks are in place and the station is expected to be ready before winter. Richard Pew owns the property and will lease to an operator. Texaco petroleum products will be sold from the New Orleans company. Funeral services for Mrs Anna Heeren were held at Christ Lutheran Church Grant Township with burial in the church cemetery. she died September 19 at Sacred Heart Hospital Le Mars. She was 77 years, 10 months, and 18 days old. Survivors include three sons and two daughters, with several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband, parents, one son, and siblings predeceased her.

Let's Get Married: Local duo seeks marriage license

Milton L. Rue Mohr of Moville and Dorothy Reinhold of Pierson appeared at the Clerk of Court office this past week to apply for a marriage license. A hog house on the Bob Garvin farm northeast of Marcus sustained a small fire Tuesday afternoon, extinguished by Marcus fire department. Spark from nearby burned corn husks, fanned by the wind, likely started the blaze.

Gehlen Enrollment Tops Expectations

Gehlen grade and high school in Le Mars reports an all time high enrollment of 544 students for the 1953 54 year with 137 in high school and 407 in grades since opening September 8. The new high school building is under construction and classes are held in the former St Josephs building. Faculty includes Sisters of Christian Charity and lay staff with Anthony Mila joining soon. Baptism and local family gatherings noted in Akron and Le Mars community.

Le Mars High School prepares for homecoming Friday September 25 1952 with a pep rally coronation and parade. Sac City, ranked ninth in the state, defeated the Le Mars Bulldogs 33-0 at the Westmar field Friday Sept 19. Lary Harmen opened scoring on the opening fumble return, then Keith Bunting added a six yard TD run. Monte McClintock scored a 71 yard TD, with Me Clintock again in the third quarter. Bob Schenk former Sour City boat club champion, Moville, won the Le Mars club course event with rounds of 47 and 26 for a 73 total. Ray Hartman of Le Mars took first night prize.
