Paved feedlot gains and mud period impact on cattle
The report notes cattle on a full paved lot gained about one third of a pound per day over 60 days while consuming 2.1 bushels less corn, contrasted by a mud period where cattle lost weight despite similar feed intake and 2 percent daily gains. Vie Vinck recommends ample paving per steer and specific strip and bunker dimensions for hogs and cattle. Retired Fairfield Ledger editor Wallace Sherlock ends a long era in local journalism after 60 years in the trade.
