Parents Night at Le Mars School Showcases Daily Routines

Le Mars junior and senior high schools host their sixth annual Parents Night on Tuesday evening as part of American Education Week. The program lets parents tour classrooms laboratories and gymnasiums to observe a typical half day, with chorus rehearsal and three class periods. Mrs Richard Alsop former Plymouth county resident died Thursday at her Cardwell Montana home after a stroke. Born Laura Brucher in Remsen Iowa she lived in Le Mars and Stoun City before moving to Cardwell in 1944. Survived by three sisters and two brothers including Helen Brucher and Dr Walter Beucher. Funeral services and burial held in Cardwell.

Funeral services for John Joseph McLaughlin 60 of Sioux City were held at St Joseph Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with Rev Edward C Lilly officiating. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery after a rosary at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Larkin Funeral Home. Born July 10 1893 in Sioux City he was a World War I veteran. Survivors include Margaret Harty of Sioux City and Mrs John Geary of Le Mars. no sisters.

Mrs Frank Becker Funeral Services Held in Seney

Funeral services for Mrs. Frank Becker were held at 2 p m Sunday November 8 at the Seney Methodist church with Rev Curas Miner and Rev M L Metcalf officiating. Burial was in the Seney cemetery with Mauer toner home in charge of arrangements. Jeanette Florence Reeves born May 4 1881 near Seney married Frank Becker December 19 1900. Survived by widower Frank two children a son and daughter, one granddaughter and four grandsons, and three brothers Bert William Clarence all of Le Mars two sisters Mrs Martha Cook of Le Mars and Mrs Root Chambers of Watertown SD. Preceded in death by her parents and one sister. She was a member of the Seney Methodist church and an honorary life member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service.

Iowa Coon Hunters Reminded Of Extended Season End

The Site Conservation Commission notes the 1953 raccoon hunting season runs to January 10, 1954 with a split schedule. From October 30 to November 19 raccoons may be hunted but not trapped, and from November 16 to midnight January 16, 1954, both hunting and trapping are allowed. no trapping occurred during the early season to protect mink and muskrat, as trapping for those species began only on November 16. Additionally, Le Mars requires a $5 sewer permit to connect to the city system, with the commission marking the connection site and allowing one excavation on street or alley per permit.

Louis Burkard lifelong resident dies unexpectedly from a heart attack on a Saturday morning at a Le Mars farm. World War I veteran and Eagles member, he is survived by four sisters and two brothers. Troops in Alaska Europe and the Far East will be immunized in November per Army Surgeon General Major General George E Armstrong. New Lutheran Church At Chatsworth Groundbreaking Report

Ground was broken Monday morning for the basement of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Chatsworth and work began to tear down the parish hall a Chatsworth landmark. Plans include adding 22 feet of basement space to the north moving the church and enlarging with salvaged parish hall material plus new. Volunteers and funds raised by a drive led by Ka Hartimann John Moiler and Fred Meins aim to complete much work this fall. The congregation hopes to worship in a nearby building during construction. Also noted is Sergeant Donald Mc Anderson from Chatsworth recently promoted in Korea with the 2d Infantry Division serving in post truce training. He joined the Army in 1952.
