Plymouth county PMA chair R L Weidater announced loan figures as of March 15 showing 9 loans in force totaling 2.452 million dollars for oats soybeans flax wheat and corn. Final dates for small grains loan closure January 31 1983 and for corn loans and purchase commitments May 29 1953 require all loan documents to be completed by then.
The Iowa Public Service Company announces construction of a new single story service building at the IPS gas plant corner of First St and Fourth Ave NE. The 80 by 72 foot facility will house service vehicles meters and testing facilities and serve as the hub for gas electric and water operations in Le Mars and surrounding district. D F Ketelsen says the new headquarters will ease crowding and support growth, noting the district covers six communities with about 140 miles of high voltage lines and houses division crews and meter departments.
Gonlon Mennen warns Plymouth County donations only a quarter of the $9,327 goal have arrived at Red Cross headquarters. After talks with James Hickey, he notes giving lags behind the state and stresses that blood costs $4.35 per pint from donor to delivery. Vander Meer urges quick finish by Friday the 28th, and the WCTU announces a March 27 meeting for Red Cross drive updates and celebration of county effort.

Mrs. R. Meyer received word from the War Department that her husband, Private Robert Meyer, USMC, on the battle lines in Forest, was wounded March 14. The injury details were not disclosed. It marks his second such report since entering service nearly two years ago, with a furlough expected soon and hopes for return this spring.
The Union Township Farm Bureau met at Mrs Gordon Stokes home on March 19. Mrs Henry Dempster chaired the session. Members named personal health rules, planned a foreign scrap book, and hosted a home nursing lesson with demonstrations on bed making and nutrition films. A luncheon followed hosted by the hostess.
M. V. Shafenberg, superintendent of schools at Hinton, received the annual Morningside College man of educational service award at the 13th Conference on Educational Problems held Saturday. The certificate was presented by Dean Thomas E. Twite at a luncheon in Dimmin Hall. Shafenberg has served Hinton for 29 years and was lauded for magnificent service to young people. Russell Fidsmoe, head of the college’s educational department, served as general conference chairman.
Thomas Dimmick Lee Dimmick four year old son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Dimmick Hawarden died shortly after colliding with a moving car Friday afternoon in Hawarden Police chief Walter Varon ruled it an accident and no charges would be filed against driver Dick Vreeman The child died from internal injuries at a hospital Funeral services are planned Monday March 23 at 1 30 at the Bernard Funeral Home and 2 00 p m at the Methodist church with Rev Roy Brown officiating Burial will be in Gracehill Cemetery Survivors include the parents four brothers and sisters one brother had died four years ago

Funeral services for Carl Albers 37 longtime Kingsley resident who died Wednesday night at a Stew City hospital after three months illness were at 2230 pm Sunday at the First Lutheran church in Kingsley. Burial in Kingsley cemetery under Dickison funeral home. Born July 12 1865 in Germany he came to the United States at 17 and lived in Holstein and Kingsley regions. He lived with a daughter in Ingles the last years. Surviving are Emil von of Kingsley four daughters Mrs Buri Peters and Mrs Ida Wink both of Sion City Mrs Alma Kine of Kingsley and Mrs Albert John of Paulina Va 2 half brothers PLC Reichman Moville U3 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Miss Patricia Veracland daughter of Mr and Mrs Allen McFarland of Pipestone Minnesota formerly of Le Mars will marry Robert J Pratt on Sunday March 29 at the First Methodist church LeMars The ceremony is at 8 00 P M with a reception in the church parlors Miss Veracland graduated from Le Mars High School last spring and the groom has recently returned from Korea with the army.
Rev Homer Max resigns after five years as pastor of Le Mars Church of the Nazarene to take a call at Shenandoah Church of the Nazarene. Rev Glen Cantrell arrives with wife and son Raymond from Moravia Iowa to take over. Cantrell previously served in Clay City Indiana and southern Indiana. Regular services set for 11 am and 8 pm with Cantrell preaching. Dennis Kanago, son of Mr and Mrs M R Kanago, to report to San Antonio Texas for Air Corps training.
Miss Arlene Eberhard, a bride of the near future, was guest of honor at a Sunday afternoon shower in Johnson Township church parlors. Hosts Mesdames Gil Wetrosky Amon Croon Charles Oltmanns George Johnson and Elmer Herzberg planned the event with a luncheon and a monologue by Jud Johnson. Messrs and relatives presented gifts in the bride to be colors. Miss Eberhard is to wed April 3 at 3 p.m. in St Paul Lutheran Church Indiana groom Melvin K. Manwell.
Henry Falke a longtime Remsen businessman and civic reader died Saturday at Sacred Heart hospital Le Mars after a long sickness. Born in Germany he immigrated in 1881 and lived in Remsen area since 1884. He served on the town council over 20 years was a director of Remsen Tank Line Co and Farmers Savings Bank. Survived by wife and three daughters Viola Mrs W E Claussen Des Moines and Mrs Elmer Oblendorf Remsen. Services held at 2 p.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church Remsen with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs Kass recounts moments before a crash that injured Miss Audrey Moser and Chick Chicoine, with Ed Kass and bystanders racing to help. The Chicoine car struck Mel Singer’s vehicle, the parties were hospitalized, and witnesses corrected initial reporting about Welter and others.
Former Shirley Blake of Sioux City was honored at a pink and blue shower on Wednesday evening. Guests presented many gifts as a luncheon ended the event. The Easter theme and colors pink and blue adorned the decorations. Fourteen guests attended.
A solo crash occurred four miles south of Le Mars on highway 75 late Saturday night. Serlin Karli drove a 1954 International pickup north on highway 73, veered onto the shoulder, regained control, and overturned across the road. Top and right front damage totaled about $200.

Announcement by Calvary Cemetery Association states it has purchased 48.59 acres from the Obermire estate for 29134 dollars, adding to the former St Joseph and St James cemeteries to create a continuous 80 acre block along Plymouth Street to Highway 3. The cost will be shared among the parishes, with St Joseph paying 35 percent and St Jones paying 35 percent.
Marie R Hansen of Alton died in Hawarden on March 20 1933 after a seven month hospitalization at age 92. Born April 4 1860 in France she came to the U S in 1880 and settled in Alton since 1298. She was married to John Hansen who preceded her and left a son Leonard deceased. Funeral at St Marys Catholic Church Alton with burial in the church cemetery. Survivors include three sons Harry Nick Ned William and Elizabeth Rockenbrandt one daughter and two grandchildren. She was a Rosary Society member at St Marys.

Le Mars high school will stage afternoon and evening recitals in the auditorium this Wednesday at 2:25 and 7:45. Open to all without admission, the programs showcase soloists and small ensembles from the upcoming Sheldon prelims on Friday and Saturday. Featured soloists include Donna Laws and Sharon Hall among others, with ensembles such as woodwind quintet and brass groups listed for the afternoon, and a longer evening lineup of named performers and instrument sections.

Twelve former Walmer post commanders attended the regular meeting on Wednesday night. The group sought to contact all past leaders and extend invitations, but some could not be reached. The session featured reminiscences from older members, opening with Commander Becker, then guest Harry Cannon leading in prayer. Cannon also led a pledge to the flag, urging unity, liberty, and justice.
