A town rumor claimed foreign invaders planned to blow up Le Mars by raising gas pressure. IPS records show no leak danger. odor resulted from a sticking valve and excess odorizing chemical, not explosive gas, and pressure remained normal.
Farmers with government support on oats rye and flax are reminded by the Plymouth county ASC that all loans and purchase agreements mature on April 30. Each borrower will receive a notice with a date to redeem or deliver. Those with purchase agreements must decide by April 30 whether to deliver. Barley oats or flaxseed under warehouse storage loans will be taken over by the government on May unless redeemed by April 30.

Dr John Henry Seltman from Auburn Washington arrives in Le Mars for a two week Christian Stewardship Crusade at First Methodist Church He serves as Minister of Finance for the Pacific Northwest Conference of The Methodist Church He has spent a decade directing stewardship crusades for The Methodist Church and has aided 163 churches in the U S and Alaska He will preach April 28 and May 5 meet all adult church groups and address a reception for board members and spouses The Crusade committee lists R W Parker Alton M Forsberg and others with Rev Robert V Gildner as pastor
Former Remsen resident Mabel G. Shields 64 died April 1 at her South Denver home. Born March 7, 1893, she moved from Remsen to Leon, Iowa at 16. her father was Remsen postmaster. A registered nurse, she married RH Shields in 1924 at Durham, Arkansas. She was previously married to a Kansas oil producer and was active in church and civic life as Evangelical United Brethren. Surviving are a daughter, two sons, two sisters and seven grandchildren.

Remsen Council of the Knights of Columbus hosts an informal party at Marets on Sunday April 30 to celebrate the organization s seventy fifth anniversary. The 7 30 p m gathering aims to be in the How Name Gymnasium with nearby council members joining as hosts from Holy Name Parish Marcus. The order founded by Rev Michael MacGivney in New Haven Conn on March 29 1882 now numbers over one million members in the hemisphere.
Westmar College netmen travel to Sioux City Wednesday April 24 to face the Morningside Maroons under coach lug Who. The Eagles have yet to play a meet with Yankton rescheduled due to weather and the Wayne match was canceled. Likely travelers include Nelson Marshall Martin Concordia Bull Herrick Wittenberg Black and teammates Ghich Taytor with Gary Danube and Ken Black.

M H Niggeling, cashier and director of First Savings Bank on Rowen street, will retire in September after 46 years of service. Eva Kiernan longtime Sioux City resident died at Sioux City hospital after several months illness. Born April 9 1879 at Kingsley Iowa she married Rev Kiernan in 1907. Survived by daughter Mrs Nina Mayhew of Sioux City and three sons Paul Earl and Forest. No grandchildren listed. body to Winter funeral home.
Westmar College beat Morningside Maroons 22 to 1 in Des Moines. Hal McGuire led the offense with multiple hits while pitcher Les Lamets Worried through seven innings before relief from Dick Cussich. The Maroons started Raymond, then Robocke Louke, as Westmar collected seven hits and seven walks in the big second inning. Benet stag party noted for Elks at 6:30 pm Monday.
Free Stag Post 241 announces its annual Free Stag event set for Thursday April 28 at the Country Club. ALE members are invited to attend this social gathering with fellowship and refreshments.
Hob Whelan a brainy high school basketball player has returned from trips to Stanford and other colleges he is considering for education after high school. Due to his athletic and scholastic record several institutes wish to enroll him. He aims for engineering with nuclear physics and friends expect him to balance academics and basketball.
Sister Mary Lucy, a Presentation nun for 62 years, died Sunday April 2 after a two month illness at Mount Loretto Convent in Dubuque Iowa. Funeral will be Tuesday April 23 at 9:00 AM at the Convent Chapel. She was born March 6 1875 in Elkader Iowa and entered the convent in June 1893. Survived by two sisters Mrs Nora Curtis Los Angeles and Mrs George Sweining Phoenix and five brothers Emmett Rogers Doon T V Rogers Alvord Roy Rogers Mantech Frank Rogers Henderson and James Rogers Le Mars plus several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents three sisters and one brother. Rev Pather Duang Raftis will sing the Requiem Hugh Mass.
Westmar College thinclads finished third in a quadrangular meet at Morningside in Stour City. Buena Vista placed fourth as Bill Ormsen of Waverly led the Eagles with a 100 yard dash third, 440 yard dash second, and mile relay anchor in 3.37. Dick Anderson of Aurelia tied for first in high jump at 38 inches, while Bob Derr of Marcus finished fourth in the 120 yard high hurdles and second in pole vault with 11 67.
Richard Hogan, a Stour City resident, died at a Sioux City hospital. Funeral services will be at St Parrk Church in Iowa City, with Rev Mo Pecha officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Hogan, born in Iowa City, had lived at the New Oxford hotel in Sioux City. Surviving are a sister Anne Hogan and a brother Albert of Ti'tm fa, among others. Funeral home Le Mars directs arrangements.
