Northwest Iowa clubwomen exceed attendance at workshop

The February 25 workshop drew 105 registrations by noon, with many chairwomen and planning volunteers present. Mrs. Schubert Parkinson led as general chair, while Mrs. Claus Schlicht Sanborn and Miss Trei Sibley aided study periods. Mrs. Erwin Eaton Le Mars spoke on negro spirituals and music, as Mrs. Leonard Ludwig Le Mars chaired a session, with performances by Le Mars high school girls Cond, Roth, and Buttermore.

Le Mars Veteran Granted 100 Percent Disability After Korea Ordeal

A Le Mars veteran, captive in Korea for over three years, was awarded 100 percent service connected disability after losing his right leg to cancer. Red Cross advocacy and VA review aided Gordon Schmita’s case, enabling him to secure compensation and plan a future with his wife and two children. He returned home five years ago, later underwent an amputation in 1958, and now hopes to wear an artificial limb and continue supporting his family through a job aided by compensation.

Grain Rates For 1959 Set With No Acreage Quotas

Corn support rates for 1959 are fixed with a national average of 1.12 per bushel for compliant production and about 1.05 per bushel for Plymouth County. The new program eliminates allotments and designations, sets minimum national averages for other crops, and flags adjustments by grade and location. Red Cross First Aid Classes Open With 20 Enrollees

Mrs. E. H. Carey announced that Red Cross First Aid classes under William DeVos began last Wednesday at the city library oak room with 20 enrollees. The five week course starts February 25 and runs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. A private two hour session aided late arrivals. Certificates will be awarded after completion of the Standard First Aid course.
