At a recognition dinner, he received an inscribed gold wrist watch from division associates.

Accidents Report with Icy Roads Highlight Local Collisions
Two cars and a gas truck collided at Plymouth street near sth Ave as a car pulled onto the highway from a gas station. Edward Miller followed in a 1950 Dodge while Ear Hentees drove a 1949 Chevrolet gas truck by. The icy roads caused the crash. A separate one vehicle wreck occurred one mile south of Hinton on Highway 75 on January 1 at about 30 p m. Alfred Anderson drove a 1951 Plymouth south when a deer leaped from a ditch, striking the car and causing about 75 dollars in front end damage.

Miss Katherine Laughlin Passes After Long Ill Health
Katherine Laughlin 31 died today at the Zimmerman home after long illness. A Cherokee native who moved to Le Mars two years ago she never married. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 7 at 9:00 a.m. at St James Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev L J LaVelle will officiate. Parish rosary will be recited 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. She was predeceased by her parents and siblings James and Elizabeth.

The Iowa Basic Skills Tests will be given in Plymouth County in January 1953. Rural fifth graders take the test at the end of the first semester with fourth graders if no fifth graders exist. Profiles will show parental comparisons against standard scores. Sixth to eighth graders are overseen by County Superintendent Christine Petersen with assistants. Scores go to the State University of Iowa for statewide comparison. A two half-day schedule is recommended to reduce strain. Students should bring two pencils and seventh to eighth graders should bring last year’s profile chart. Rural teachers will aid in pooling rides. Brain Derby continues.

Rollingers Say They Will Get Divorce

Joseph Overman a longtime Le Mars clothing salesman died at his home after a three month illness. He was 63 and had lived in Le Mars since 1912 after marrying Edna Ivey. A civic leader, he helped organize the first city band and directed the Boys’ Drum and Bugle Corp. Funeral services were held at Lukens with burial in the city cemetery. Survivors include his wife, three sons, two daughters, and several grandchildren.
