Mason City Iowa September 25. Sheriff Rosecrans arrested the Babolt family mother and three sons and a daughter after weeks of farm depredations near Mason City. The gang seized portable property including eighty bushels of grain tools machinery 2380 pounds of wire fence and other items totaling nearly 3000 dollars.

Traveling photographer John Grable from Pennsylvania was lynched by masked men in Wetzel County West Virginia after allegedly leading Miss Effie Moore astray under promise of marriage two years prior. He was paraded before a frightened audience then hanged from an oak in the church yard as guards watched.
Dispatcher notes a brutal killing of Matt Banton in Caddo Indian Territory by Wmn. Jones who fled after shooting him as Banton and his wife and children passed to a show. Banton is dead, Jones at large, victims and witnesses described. News also lists postmasters appointed in multiple states and other brief items.
A drunken dispute led James Erwin to beat and kick Hewes Heanor to death near Morehead, Mississippi. The intoxicated postmaster Teu N. and others witnessed the incident as the letter delivery controversy escalated.
In brief notes from the region, about 4000 acres of grain were destroyed by a prairie fire in Kidder County. H. Sheldon of Andover, Dsy County, thrashed 4255 bushels of wheat from 175 acres. Black Hills papers mock the penny's value in the area as taxes rise for newcomers. Walworth County commissioners offer 59 dollars for arrest and conviction of anyone setting prairie tires there. Theodore Schenkenberg, Sims postmaster and Sims Bank cashier, is jailed in Mandan after a minor charge. he paid fines and served five to six days, claiming spite and innocence.

A Minnesota notice reports Dennis Pitheon of East Shakopee died by gunshot. Mrs Ann Rounesville, pioneer of Minnesota, died near Mankato at age 90. Warren Adley of Osakis was found dead in a pasture from heart disease, a former legislator and regional road founder. Emelia Johnson's body was found in Delafield Township under drowning circumstances with inquest unclear, family quarrels noted and murder not proven.
A long forgotten murder tale links a mysterious three stalk plant on Private John Alexander's grave to a 1814 crime near Caledonia and Avon. The plant, known as False Gromwell, appeared for years, puzzling locals and tracing to Alexander, a New Haven area resident, with Clinton of Buffalo noting its wild spread in 1817. The tale blends frontier tragedy with eerie botany.
