Dr Reuben Samani, an Iran native, announced as new physician in Akron joining Dr Trotzig. He moved from Ida Grove, studied at University of Nebraska, earned a master’s degree, graduated from UNL Medical School, interned at UNL Hospital with obstetrics training. Le Mars Students Named SUI Honors Recipients

Five Le Mars residents will be recognized at the SUI Honors Convocation May 18 for strong academic work with above average grades. Included are Jerry Blakely Marion Coad Jean Hammans Rich ard Johnston and Donald Kehrberg from Le Mars and Janet Phelps from Kingsley Eloise Heuer from Rock Valley. Gehlen seniors earn Iowa honor list nod in math contest

Three Gehlen senior students Stewart Stopak Richard Flynn and Gordon Yoerger were named to the Iowa honor list after the national high school math contest sponsored by the Mathematics Association of America and the Society of Actuaries. A Sacred Heart hospital auxiliary meeting is set for Monday at 8 p.m. with a 7 15 p.m. executive board session at the hospital.

Stars Olson suffers heart attack in Sioux City home

Olson a renowned saxophone player at the Club Deb Vonair since 1951 collapsed from a heart attack at his Sioux City residence. He is hospitalized at St. Joseph Mercy in room 250. The Christian Mothers Society of St. Joseph Parish Le Mars sponsors a rummage and bake sale May 5 at the rear of the Sherwin Williams paint store with entry on the west side.

Le Mars Tri Queens Crown at First Invitational Track Meet

Three Le Mars area students were named tri queens at the first annual Le Mars Invitational track meet. Mary Jane Truesdell of Le Mars Community, Sandy Sitzman of Gehlen, and Joanna Cunningham of Westmar were crowned during a 7 pm ceremony at Westmar field. Field events began at 4 pm with running later. teams from Le Mars Gehlen Remsen Union Anthon Oto Marcus and Leeds competed across class A B and college divisions.

Westmar Opens 10-Day Fine Arts Fete May 3 12

Westmar college launches a 10 day fine arts festival May 3 to 12 with daily activities in music art literature and drama beginning 8 p m in Thoren auditorium and other campus venues. Highlights include two evenings of No Exit and The Bald Soprano in Thoren with director James Fletcher, a wind symphonette concert, Henry V screening, joint faculty recital, an art lecture by Evert Johnson, Thomas Schumacher piano recital, a Read er's Theatre production There'll Always be a War Between the Sexes, and a Mozart Requiem concert with the college choir. Free will offerings noted for some events and ticketed performances for others.
