Hodgson Joins Missouri Staff As Extension Instructor

James Hodgson of Le Mars has joined the University of Missouri staff on a half time basis as an extension education instructor and became a full time agricultural editor with television and radio duties on February 1. He holds a B.S. in agricultural journalism from Iowa State and pursues a master's in extension education. He grew up on a general and dairy farm near Le Mars, attended Le Mars High School, Westmar College, and ISU, with active participation in FFA, yearbook and photography. He has worked in radio and TV farm departments, is married with a five month old son, and belongs to Sigma Delta Chi and Phi Kappa Tau.

Kingsley Girl Wins County Farm Bureau Scholarship Bid

Katheryn Pratt of Kingsley is chosen by the Plymouth county Farm Bureau to represent the county for a state scholarship. The selection process will narrow four district applicants to two statewide contenders. Pratt, 18, senior at Kingsley Pierson High School, plans elementary education with science and math, and has served as school editor, band clarinetist, Activities Editor on the annual staff, and vice president of Future Teachers of America. She studied geology and physics last summer at the University of Iowa Summer Science and Math Institute. She attends Kingsley Church of the Brethren and has taught Vacation Bible School and serves as assistant Secretary for the church.

Straw Vote Opposes Liquor by the Drink in Iowa

Reader poll from Le Mars and nearby towns shows 53 percent oppose liquor by the drink in Iowa. Total ballots 260, with 216 marked. 102 no and 14 yes. Early count favored yes then shifted to no as ballots continued to arrive. Ballots continue to be accepted before final Des Moines submission.
