Life's End Mrs Doretta Plueger Dies at 52

Mrs Doretta Lena Plueger 52 of 45 Ord Ave NE died Wednesday in an Iowa City hospital after eight months of illness. Funeral services set for 2 pm Saturday at St John American Lutheran with Rev L L Belk and Rev Robert Floy officiating. Burial at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Survived by son Earlin and daughter Myrna Wittkep of Le Mars and six grandchildren. Preceded by parents William and Lena Weber Pecks and one son.

Iowa Youth Hold Important Positions at Westmar

Two Westmar college students were re-elected to Iowa Evangelical United Brethren Youth Fellowship roles at the winter conference in Westmar on December 2. Bob Groat of Cedar Rapids was elected to a second term as president, while Kalona freshman Curtis Cox was reappointed youth associate for the Iowa conference to visit local youth groups as a source leader.

New KC Building Nears Completion in Le Mars

Trinity council and Knights of Calembus near finishing a new Knights of Columbus hall north of the post office. Plumbers have completed heating air conditioning and rest rooms. interior painting done. Surplus equipment from the old convent donated. Final touches include tiling and kitchen cabinet work. The hall will be open to the public for private and community events and may host weddings funerals meetings and youth activities. Weather Brief Predicts Snow and Cold Wave Tonight

The weather bureau forecasts two to four inches of snow by late tonight as temperatures fall from a springlike day. Northwesterly winds whip light snow with blowing and drifting flurries 15 to 30 mph. By Friday morning temperatures may drop 10 to 15 degrees below zero with continued cloudy, very cold conditions.

Flames Rush North of LeMars Fire North of Highway 33

Le Mars fire department answered a call to a fire 10 miles north on highway 33 Wednesday evening at 8 10. A railroad fare had set dry grass ablaze along the highway. No damage occurred and crews contained the blaze despite strong northwest winds.

Ricker Clara Dies After Lingering Illness At Sioux Valley

Clara Ricker, aged 62, died January 3 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee after a lingering illness. Born September 18, 1880, in Marcus, she was the daughter of James and [unnamed] Ricker and later lived in Granville before moving to Marcus. Interment was at the parish cemetery with Nelson Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are her brother Elmer Ricker of Marcus and sister-in-law Mrs. Kate Ricker of Colorado Springs, with several nieces and nephews listed.

County Plans to Rebuild No 140 State Road Between Kingsley and Remsen

County Engineer Herb Floyd and Plymouth county officials asked the state highway commission in Ames to let the county take over State Road No 140 a gravel route between Kingsley and Remsen. They propose grading and temporary surfacing with some state funding, saying county standards would be cheaper than state standards possibly under $1 million. Commission chair Jo Stong cited money and law as issues and noted the resurfacing is not in the five year program.
