Charles Bowers Dies From Car Crash Injuries
Charles Bowers died from injuries in a car accident near Salina Kansas on November 21. His wife Mrs Adrian Bowers of Pasadena California also died from injuries the following day. Two-Car Collision Near 3rd Street and 1st Avenue SE
Police report a New Year’s Eve crash at the intersection of 3rd St and 1st Ave SE. Drivers are Robert Wayne Nairn 18 of Remsen and Gerald Gengler 31 of Le Mars. Nairn’s 190 Chevy headed west. Gengler’s Ford traveled north. No damage estimates filed.

Increase in Adult Civil Defense Program
Since February 1952 Iowa began the Civil Defense adult education program in the state department of public instruction. By January 15 1963 a total of 130 classes will have been conducted and 5029 adults will have received certificates. The program trains on personal family protection in case of disasters including peacetime fires floods hurricanes and wartime nuclear biological and chemical threats. Herbert J Angove of route 1 1 Sioux City died at his home three miles east of James Wednesday after a month long illness. A farmer and World War I veteran he lived in the area all his life and belonged to the Methodist church. Surviving are three sisters Mrs Florence Karrer Mrs Alice Raby and Mrs Maude Hansen and two brothers Archie and Howard Angove. Body taken to Heaton Westcott funeral home in Sioux City.

Granville Youth Hurt In Car Upset Near Alton
Leonard Heying, 20, son of Mr and Mrs Al Heying of Granville, sustained severe injuries in a New Year morning crash southeast of Alton. He suffers a hip dislocation, foot injuries and lacerations and is listed in fair condition at Orange City Hospital. The single occupant driver apparently fell asleep as the 1958 Chevrolet hit a bridge south of the Mike Hansen farm on the Remsen black-top road around 3 AM. Passersby found him and requested medical aid.

Lifelong Plymouth County Resident Calvin Deviney Dies
Calvin Deviney 79 of the Okerstrom apartments died Wednesday en route to Sacred Heart hospital from the Plymouth County home. He was born December 21, 1883, in Plymouth County, son of William and Katherine Morris Deviney. Survived by two sons John of Sioux City and Robert of Topeka, Kan, a daughter Mrs Ray Brown of South Sioux City, and a sister Mrs Hazel Eyres of Le Mars. Funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday at Luken's Funeral Home, Dr G O Thompson officiating. Burial in Le Mars Memorial Cemetery. He and his brother Rueben ran a transfer line in the 1920s, later worked for Moore Lumber Co and Plymouth Mills.
