Sniper collision reported at Plymeeth Street corner

Charges filed after a Sunday crash at the corner of Plymeeth Street and Fifth Avenue. Kenneth Crieh Seux was driving a 1889 Chevrolet southbound, its right rear fender damaged. Darrell Gralapp’s 1951 Dodge Dart, driven by Robert Gralapp of Le Mars, sustained damage to the left front fender and radiator. Police officer Joe Luten investigated the mishap.

Tax Credit Changes Benefit Farmers and Businesses

A new retroactive investment credit boosts Plymouth County wealth with up to seven percent of equipment cost deductible from taxes. It covers tangible personal property including used and new machinery but excludes buildings and livestock. To qualify full credit requires eight years of use, with reduced credits for shorter lives. Excess credits can offset past or future taxes but not before 1962. Dec purchases qualify the same as Jan purchases, and credits reduce depreciation bases.

Chamber executives elect Harmon president in Cherokee

Northwest Iowa Chamber of Commerce officers and guests gathered for the annual meeting in Cherokee. Jack Harmon of Le Mars was elected president replacing Alice Timmins. Other officers for the coming year include Mrs. Melba McClean of Sheldon first vice president Orville Kenworthy of Spencer second vice president and William Lumry of Sac City secretary treasurer. Harmon had announced his resignation as Le Mars Chamber manager last Friday and will assume the Ames Chamber of Commerce general manager post January 15.

Dr F J Hussey Returns Home After Hospital Stay

Dr F J Hussey Remsen spent six weeks in a Sioux Falls veterans hospital undergoing major surgery and has returned home. Akron fire department responded to a December 23 fire at the Porter Maynard farm southwest of town, starting in the roof near a chimney. only slight damage occurred.

Twins Born to Sullivan Family in Minneapolis

A girl and a boy were born to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sullivan of Minneapolis on December 29, weighing 9 pounds 7 ounces and 9 pounds 10 ounces respectively. The Sullivans have four other boys. Grandmother is Mrs. W. J. Sullivan. Mrs. Earl Brittin is noted as a SIMeredC- Mr. Sullivan. Special-Mrs. Stanley King learned of her grandmother Mrs. Cora Lewis’s death in Napa California. River Man at Akron Honored for 35 Years of Service

Akorn’s lumber dealer and U.S. Weather Observer Akorn Moore, active 35 years, received the U.S. Weather Bureau 35-Year Length of Service Award. He has tracked Big Sioux river stages and 12 monthly rainfall sums, aiding flood warnings and climate data used in state and national reports. Ivory P. End of Life for Frank E Burke Retired Akron Rural Carrier

Frank E Burke 83 longtime Akron resident and Snohomish, Washington native died Sunday morning December 3 in a Monroe Washington hospital after a period of ill health. He served 38 years as a rural mail carrier from Akron post office before retirement and moving to Snohomish twenty years ago. He belonged to the First Church of Christ in Akron and was an elder for many years. Surviving: wife two sons Ronald of Westfield Duane E of Everett two daughters Mrs Ray Holm of Akron Mrs Kenneth MacDicken of Snohomish eight grandchildren and one great grandson Tommy Adkins of Sioux City. Funeral services were held Thursday December 27 at the Snohomish funeral home with burial in the G A R cemetery there.

Mr and Mrs Ralph Osbahr of rural Kingsley were treated for injuries after a one car crash on a Plymouth County blacktop north of Kingsley Saturday night Their infant daughter Melinda was uninjured Mrs Osbahr 4 suffered severe facial lacerations and a thigh injury and was in critical condition after surgery The couple had been to Kingsley for groceries and were returning home Investigating officers cited loss of control on a curve Mr Osbahr 23 work at Glen Reed farm five miles northwest of Kingsley.

Heart attack hospitalizes Mrs Art Hansen at Sacred Heart

Special Mrs Art Hansen suffered a heart attack at her home Sunday morning and was taken to Sacred Heart hospital where she is a patient. Airman Basic James F. Bauler, son of Mr and Mrs Francis Bauler of route 1 Remsen, is being reassigned to Sheppard AFB Tex for technical training as a United States Air Force finance and statistical data specialist. Airman Bauler, who completed the first phase of his military training at Lackland AFB Tex, was selected for the specialized course on the basis of his interests and aptitudes. The airman is a 1962 graduate of Remsen Union high school.

Teacher Reminisces After 65 Years Reunion

Four Akron area men and a former resident met their rural Garland schoolteacher Mrs Kate Polar now 98 in North Sioux City. The group included Andrew Bredall Frank Jacobs Albin Carlson and Jake Lever from Madeira Minn. They visited her and found her in excellent health and remarkably active.
