New York and national items note President Wilson will review the largest mounted Regular Army gathering in Washington since the 1860s grand review. Other reports include Maine beef licensing, a college tuition hike for Wellesley, and a collision disaster on Long Island Rail Road.
Official reports cite a rebels blast on a passenger train of the Mexican National railway 60 miles south of Saltillo looting and robbery followed by a deadly outcome. The incident implicates Lieut. Francisco Carlenas in a related Madero assassination case and mentions further violence near El Tigre.
Four young women from foreign brides near Nagy Varad Hungary were killed by lightning while sheltering in a grotto during a wedding decorations trip. The tragedy follows a storm that interrupted preparations for the church ceremony.

Anthracite and peat are more costly while ash and soot are higher with Iowa coal. John Wendt finds a $4000 pearl, trades it for a home and two lots.
Orange City reports a fatal accident as 40 foot deep gas exposure ends the life of Jake Terpstra, a well digger. Terpstra and Jost descended to investigate a gas finding after Terpstra descended about 30 feet and became unconscious on the surface.
The Council of Higher Education, an organization aiding Bohemian American students, held a two day convention in the city. Sessions on Saturday and Sunday were attended by its executive council and delegations from lodges and groups supporting the council.
Twenty five Indians from the reservation joined the Fairfield event last week. They built a traditional camp and brought paraphernalia. A buffalo was slaughtered by the Fairfield committee to give the Indians a taste of their forefathers main food.
Storm Lake reports James Brazil, nine miles north, fatally injured in an automobile accident. He lost control, the car tipped and rolled twice. Mrs. Brazil and two children were also in the car.
The dental thief active in Iowa has moved operations to Marshalltown. Dr. H C Mueller’s office was broken into and jewelry and dental supplies valued at 125 dollars were stolen including gold and platinum teeth.
The forty second annual Iowa Equal Suffrage association convention will be held in Boone on Wednesday Thursday and Friday October 3 8 and 10. A separate item reports a serious auto crash in Algona Narrows three injuries with Rufus Linnhorst James Lindhorst and Guy Stewart among the injured.
The formal presentation of a memorial tablet to Abraham Lincoln was made at the Soldiers Home by the Women's Relief Corps. The bronze tablet bearing Lincoln's Gettysburg speech was set in cement in front of the main building.
The grand jury in Yowa City returned an indictment charging William Deerfoot an Indian with murder. Deerfoot shot his wife during a controversy on September 6 and claims a defense.
Washington orders the discontinuance of Homer postoffice, burying a once large northern Iowa town. Homer, once county seat of Hamilton and Webster counties before 1857, faded as Webster City and Fort Dodge rose with railroad expansion.
Cedar Falls officials announce a $1000 prize for the best acre of corn grown in Black Hawk County next year. The offer came from a leading county bank and will be coordinated by the Black Hawk County Crop Improvement Association. The association plans a county-wide seed campaign and an automobile tour to reach all farmers, with the date to be announced.
Eldora father son grandson and great grandson attended a Radcliffe reunion. Sixty years earlier S. Sampson arrived from Norway and later farmed near Radcliffe. He soon bought an interest in a local general store still owned by his heirs. The elder Sampson is over 80 and seen daily in town.
The fiftieth annual session of the northwest German conference of the Methodist church convenes at Giard this week. Bishop W. C. Shep ard presiding. The gathering includes 135 ministers and many day delegates. The district spans northern Iowa, all of South Dakota, southwest Wisconsin, and northwestern Illinois.
Atlantic Frank Peterson of Atlan tic died from a peculiar illness causing neck gland swelling that blocked his airway. His mother found Jim kneeling on the porch, dead.
A touring car carrying T. H. Saunders of Omaha his wife and three sons plunged down a steep embankment near Hamburg. Mrs Saunders and a small son escaped unharmed. One son was pinned under the car with a dislocated neck. doctors fear he will not survive.
A Milford man employed by Western Electric died after breaking his neck in a fall from a telephone pole. The incident happened in the city and the worker collapsed within minutes. Authorities investigated the accident and passed the body to the coroner for routine procedures.
The Lucas county jail has been condemned by the grand jury and Judge Hunter has ordered closure. Prisoners will be moved to the Wapello county jail in Ottumwa. The facility has housed inmates for thirty five years.
H F Stewart a self confessed forger was sentenced to ten years in the penitentary at Fort Mudloon by Judge Dunham.
Des Moines reports two major city government questions decided by the Iowa Supreme Court in Sloan v Cedar Rapids. It held a city council can delegate administration but not legislative authority, and that a municipally owned water system may charge higher rates than private firms under certain conditions. The ruling discusses public ownership, rate justness, and authority over the water plant.
