Detective Kills Escaping Suspect and Jail Release Granted
Detective T F Callaghan killed William Fry who tried to flee during an arrest in Sidney. Fry, suspected of a minor offense, was shot when the officer’s aim struck his brain as he stumbled. Three Hurt in Runaway on High Bridge
In Dubuque three residents were badly hurt when a vehicle on a high bridge went out of control. In De Witt Iowa on September 22 a barn, granaries, and Gora cribs near E. F. Butterfield were destroyed by a lightning fire. Seven head of horses and large quantities of corn and hay were burned. Butterfield saved his trotting and pacing horses, Brown Hat, Caroline, and Trade Mark. Estimated total loss ranges from 8000 to 10900 dollars.
