Wedding Anniversary Reunion At Cutler Home

Sunday marked the sixteenth anniversary of Willis Cutler and Frances Peterson. A large family reunion was held at the Cutler home north of LeGrand with baskets of good food and a shaded picnic meal. Forty four people attended including Mr. and Mrs. Cutler and three children Tenas Lloyd and Floyd, and many relatives from Marshalltown Buffalo Quarry Dunbar Le Grand.

Team Runaway Hits Rosdale Farm Near Town

On the Rosdale farm west of town last Thursday a team driven by Truman Rosdale bolted at full speed ripping through the field and colliding with Oliver Rosdale who was mowing. The boy escaped unharmed though Oliver was left shaken and sore. Neighbors came to assist as damage to gear and property was noted.

Fifth Annual Leif Ericson Picnic Draws Thousands

Labor Day at Medicus Grove north of Gilman hosted the fifth annual Leif Ericson picnic. Attendance likely around 5000 with no precise check. Charles Hearst of the State Farm Bureau spoke on taxation while Rev. J J Share praised Leif Ericson. Games ran smoothly. lunch stands stayed busy. profits covered expenses.

The first PTA meeting plus a teachers' reception will be held in the high school auditorium on Tuesday evening September 10 at 8 o'clock. Each family should bring half a cake and utensils for each family member. A cordial invitation is extended to all.

Mammoth Engines on North Western Await Service Entry

North Western Railway prepares 35 class H passenger locomotives weighing about 823000 pounds to enter service by mid September. Built with Baldwin Locomotive Works after over a year of design, they promise 8525 pounds per square inch steam power and 65000 pounds tractive effort with booster. These 108 foot engines feature 76 inch driving wheels and will handle fast passenger trains and possibly fast freight, while incorporating train control for safety and efficient performance.
