Car Crash Near Gilman Leaves Three Injured
Monday evening at about 8 o clock Lars Freiland his wife and their 10 year old daughter Mildred were in a Ford returning from the Leif Ericson Labor Day picnic near Gilman when a car driven by Alfred Tow of Gilman struck them from behind. They were dragged into a ditch and all suffered injuries though not fatal. Mrs Freiland bore the most serious wound a dislocated shoulder.

LeGrand high school begins the new year with 190 students, 94 boys and 96 girls, while current enrollment totals 71. Seniors plan an ice cream social to support their treasury. A five piece orchestra will perform at Marshalltown for the county PTA while L. G. H. S. baseball opens vs Mon tour this Friday afternoon with veterans listed as Johnson Perry Manship Rhodes and Cutler among others. Mrs Koch, new instructor, has been ill but is expected back Monday. Victor Guthrie praised as a good teacher.

Leif Ericson Picnic Draws Large Crowds at Medicus Grove
A several thousand crowd attended the Leif Ericson picnic at Medicus grove north of Gilman on Monday. Delmar Latham led the program with LeGrand's high school band and Supt. N. E. Jones directing. Henry Wallace of Des Moines gave a farm outlook talk after returning from Europe. The evening featured performances by the band, Rev. R. S. Phillips, and fiddler Chris Reece, with eight entrants in the old fiddlers contest judged by C. H. Reece, N. E. Jones, and L. R. Grimes.

Thompson Brothers Hurt In Truck Crash Near Depot
Knudt Thompson was severely injured with multiple broken ribs after a truck loaded with paving materials struck the car on Fourth Avenue near the Great Western depot as it skidded along a narrow paving. Corney Thompson escaped with little damage. Carl Rylander, home from Muscatine, had been at the state fair.

Knudson Dominates State Fair Fruit Exhibits

Baseball recap from August 31 reports LeGrand fell 1 to 0 until the sixth inning when costly errors sealed the defeat. Batteries were LeGand Smaha Navare for LeGrand and Lemker Lemker for Haverhill.
