The school opened Monday with total enrollment 137. grades and high school classes listed. Senior, junior, sophomore, and freshman offices named with presidents and sponsors. Twenty five boys reported for baseball practice under Coach Van Dorn as schedule planning continues. Hack route drivers for five regions are named.
The Dunbar consolidated school opened for the 1936-37 term with three new teachers: Superintendent and Mrs Glen McCoy and Miss Catherine Echternacht. Verna Johnson Charlotte Reed and Mrs D E Weatherman resume last year’s roles, while Prof Weatherman will start as a teacher in Marshalltown schools next Monday.
Iowa interest groups oppose importing Argentine corn arguing it undercuts local farmers to favor Iowa welfare over partisanship. Secretary Wallace is urged to block Argentine imports, with AP market reports cited as guidance. The writer presses President Roosevelt to use power to stop the importations.

State Fair divisions list multiple awards for Hibbs and Keen entries. L T Hibbs shows boar and sow placements in Hampshire and Chester Whites. Beryl Keen earns top honors in Edlorado Marvel and related classes with multiple junior and senior boar and yearling awards. 4 H winnings for Arlene Hibbs and Lora Keen not furnished.
The Dr. Mills home welcomed the Harlow Mills family and relatives for a Wednesday evening viewing of home made moving pictures. The Yellowstone Park scenes drew a select audience and the display was enjoyed though simple in production. The Mills party planned to depart Friday for Bozeman Montana and Kinghill Idaho.
The Parent-Teacher Association will hold the first meeting of the new school year on Tuesday evening in the school auditorium. The event invites all in the community to attend and join the reception for the faculty. A program by the executive committee will precede a social time. Each family should bring one dozen cupcakes and serving for their own use.
Walter Dahl, longtime book-keeper and clerk for the Tama County Sales company, accepts a teller position at the State Bank of Vinton and will begin next Monday. He has served as book-keeper since March 1935 and previously held banking roles in LeGrand Montour and Toledo.
The September W C T U gathering met Tuesday afternoon at Cora Hoover s and Alice Sloat home with Dunbar unit in attendance. After business, group singing and devotionals led by Mrs. Sarah Piper followed by talks on governmental problems and peace by Dunbar members. A county convention report was given, a temperance scrapbook shown, and a social lunch served by local ladies. Visitors included Mrs. Carrie Plummer and son from Denver and Mrs. Bessie Collins of Salem.
Rev. Floyd Hinshaw leads Bible School with O. W. Johnson. Junior C. E. meets at 11. Gospel services at 7 and 8 with a Wednesday prayer meeting at 8 p.m. A cordial welcome to all attendees.
The notice lists Sarah M. Piper as minister and Mary Higinbotham guiding church school. Morning service occurs the first and third Sunday of each month at 10 a.m. A welcome is extended to all attendees.
Corwin O Neale recounts the Guthries transfer from LeGrand to West Branch Iowa on Sept 1 1936. A big truck Johnsons Ford and Maurice move furniture. Alice and Cora Hoover host a farewell dinner. The family settles in as the local paper brings LeGrand memories and editor Corbin.
The Howser family from Alma Center Wisconsin Frank Howser and his wife and three daughters Helen Dorothy and Arlene visited the Smaha families near Green Mountain Iowa. They toured Illinois and Missouri and say drought conditions in their region are far worse than in Marshall County Iowa. Mrs Howser extended her stay while the others returned home Thursday morning. Mayor Beane is visiting the State fair this week.
