The LeGrand Consolidated School opened Monday Aug 29 with 123 students. Grade split 72 in grade school and 51 in high school. Notices cover staff including Supt D M Caldwell and teachers, class officers, bus routes, and a welcome for new pupils.

Memory in the Attic Reveals Tiny Shoes and Dress

A long-forgotten parcel in an attic contains two tiny shoes and a yellowed dress that rekindle memories. A voice asks who wore them, and the daughter realizes the items belonged to her son, now six feet tall, igniting tears of love.

Death of Stephen M Knudson in Stavanger neighborhood

Stephen M. Knudson 1862 year resident of the Stavanger area near LeGrand died at Deaconess hospital after ten days ill due to septicemia. Born in Mahaska county he married Martha Peterson in 1898 and had three daughters six grandchildren nine related kin. Funeral services were held at Estes funeral home and Stavanger meeting house with burial in Stavanger cemetery under Rev. C. D. Byrd.

Knudsons Win Big At State Fair Horticulture Show

L G Knudson of LeGrand captured top honors in the northern district with superb apple collections including four summer varieties and five fall varieties plus over twenty varieties total. Missionary Circle Meeting Hosted by Mrs Wolken

Mrs. Herman Wolken hosted the Christian Missionary Circle on Aug 26. The president read Psalm 103 and fourteen members answered roll call on missions. Miss Ardella Richards led the program including writings and reports on the Chinese war and Japanese church. Refreshments followed and next meeting set for the J. W. Piper home.

Holland quarry halted by W P A orders from Des Moines causing friction. Holland received dust as pay for stone used by W P A workers. Screensed product sold to farmers as agricultural limestone in competition with other quarries.
