A booster road meeting in the town council room drew strong turnout as the street and alley committee reported progress. Hauling begins Thursday to clear screenings, with pledges rising to about 400 loads to fund graveling the county line route and eastward work.
Mrs. BE. E. Waps invites LeGrand-area ladies to visit her hat shop for trimmed and tailored hats. See the new styles and call to view the collection.

Marshall County Fair runs September 12 to 16 in 1921 with daytime events including a band concert vocal music at 1 00 and 1 30 racing program vaudeville show. Evening programs feature a band concert vocal music at 7 15 and 7 45 horse show in front of the grand stand and an 8 00 vaudeville show.
A midweek schedule lists vaudeville acts, racing, a band concert, and a fireworks show in front of the grandstand. Highlights include the Landing of the Pilgrims parade, a 1 2 mile County Derby, Fat Cattle Show, and a Boys and Girls Calf Club display with vocal music and stock parade performances.
Marshall County hosts a horseshoe tournament on Tuesday through Friday starting at 9:00 a.m. Entrance is $1 with all welcome. Participants are urged to send names and a $1.90 check by September 7 to Harry Vogel or C. C. Trine in Marshalltown for registration.
A Vermilion Edgar county case reports a farmer who ignored a positive cattle tuberculin test by removing the ear tag and selling the cow. Five of seven children in the purchaser’s household contracted tuberculosis from the milk, with a pig and cat also affected. A warrant issues for the original owner on breaking quarantine. manslaughter possible if a child dies.
The U S Patent Office issued a trade mark for the farm name Hawkeye owned by Iowa breeder Ledro O Willits, maker of purebred hogs cattle and sheep. It marks the first farm trade mark issued in the nation and covers interstate commerce. C I Tweet and family with Miss Mary Ferguson plan an auto tour starting Thursday to visit Yellow Stone and other northwest points en route to Colorado.

Mrs Ralph Gettle and baby visited her parents Mr and Mrs Jon Haynes in Carlton. Grace and Zella ONeal spend a week in Gilman with cousins Stephen and Florence Dunkle. Prof P G McCricken arrived from Richland preparing for school opening Sept 5. Kellogg high school boys camped north of town along the Iowa river. A shower cooled dust after heat. Tarvestad rents rooms west of the bank for produce business and plans a poultry warehouse. Uncle Samuel Inman’s 80th birthday marked by prune box and salmon. Rev Arthur A Richards and family visited, then left for Urbane Illinois. Mr and Mrs Jesse Courter from Creston visited I M Gaunt. State Fair visitors listed. Milo has gained weight since going to Higin, now 219 pounds. They were en route to Des Moines for vacation.

The Tama county Legionaires gather in Montour September 5 and 6 with State Commander McNider and State Chaplain McDermott as speakers. Events include baseball, boxing, wrestling, horseshoes, races and other sports plus music by the Montour Business Men's Band. Veterans, wives and widows are guests of honor. a full program features regis tration, meals, concerts, addresses, and contests, with two wrestling matches and a 10 round boxing end, Archie Ammons of Marshalltown versus Oklahoma end of Des Moines listed.
