Dorothy Specht returned after a week’s absence for treatment in Marshalltown. Public speaking class works on two one act plays for December P T A meeting. The carnival is moved to November 8 with rehearsals for the minstrel under Misses Dimmitt and Rank.

High school declamatory contests held Tuesday and Thursday evenings last week concluded with first place in the humorous class to Leova Crow for Ma's Monday Morning and Erceil Beane second for Tommy Stearns Scrubs Up. In oratorical, Alvin Rosedale won with The Masterful Man of the Ages Abraham Lincoln, Ralph Piper second for The Prince of Peace. Dramatic class top honors went to Cloris Ludwig for The Show Must Go On, with Dorothy Rubenbauer second for Bobby Shaftoe. Judges were Supt Wells Ferguson Supt Polk Montour and Miss Brown Gilman.

Corner Stone Ceremony for LeGrand Masonic Temple Friday
Last Friday in LeGrand featured the cornerstone laying for a new Masonic temple. Knights Templar from St. Aldemar Commandery and Cedar Rapids officials led the event with brief addresses by Ernie R. Moore, former Iowa lieutenant governor. Proceeds from a chicken sandwich supper funded temple furnishings.
