Death of Iowa publisher John Vandermast
John Vandermast editor and proprietor of the Monroe Mirror died at his Monroe home on Thursday from pneumonia. Born October 13, 1848 in the Netherlands he and his parents moved to the United States in 1855. They settled via Keokuk and Pella before he moved to Monroe in 1880 to run the Mirror which he owned ever since. Vandermast was active in social religious fraternal and political circles and his leadership through the Mirror influenced the community toward moral and social betterment.
