Old Academy Days Recalled From Altadena Letter

Edwin McGrew writes from Altadena in April 1943 about memories of old academy life in LeGrand Iowa. He recalls Flora E. Green, the Philomathian society, and teachers, mentions incidents with Charlie Benedict and Jimmy Hanks, and notes health of Frank Benedict and Mrs. McGrew. Tulip Festival Date Set and Local News Notes

Local news from Pella notes the tulip festival date of May 3 as a one day event. James Nelson has been under the weather with the flu and complications. High School News And Editorial Highlights At Montour

Old Subscriber Reminds of Annual Reporter Renewal

In LeGrand the long standing subscriber Annie Reed and her emissary Ed Blodgett visit the Reed home to renew another year of Reporter. Mrs Reed, who started with the first issue on November 5 1909, turns 90 on June 13 and is the town’s oldest resident. The report notes appreciation for her loyalty and mentions the seventh and eighth grade classroom updates, student activities, and local club notes including the Audubon Bird Club program date.
