A local editorial urges LeGrand to develop cement products including blocks posts burial vaults and bricks citing cheaper cement and new plants in Des Moines and Mason City. It argues many building uses exist and starting production will stimulate town construction and business.
A caucus in LeGrand on a May Saturday will select delegates to the county convention and nominate township officers for the June primary. Candidates must file affidavits with County Auditor Erastus Cornell by May 15 to appear on ballots. Also notes Northwestern quarry water tank, hydraulic pressure, and railroad quarrying plans, plus tire insurance advice from J. M. Hackett.
In LeGrand and surrounding areas, residents report visits from Mrs. Joe Prusha and Mrs. Phoebe Adair, social calls among families, and numerous local errands. City council discusses street crossings, sidewalk bids, light placement, and elects W. H. Bickel as councilman as meetings proceed with routine business.
A parade of Republican hopefuls announces candidacies for Marshall County offices in advance of the June primaries. Names include G. E. Stansurrey for representative, Harold C. Lorissenki and Evra M. Norracr for various county posts, and E. N. Farner for county attorney, among others.
President Kerr spoke at a Sunday school convention at Bevin's Grove. Students attended C E business meeting at Mrs. Van Horn's home. Palmer College field meet entries look promising for the management. Miss Trisifith was called home due to her mother's illness. May Day supper hosted guests including Pres. Kerr and Rev. Kendall. Attorney J. D. Wilson announced candidacy for judge 17th district. E N Farber campaigned for county attorney. Saloon remonstrance filed with 1552 signatures. twelve saloons to close. Accident hurt Mr J L Onderdonk at Chicago yards. leg severed. Mrs Deborah King Newby died in Salem Oregon after a phone call incident.
