The season for road building is at hand as communities push highway work. A petition seeks to crush stone the Gilman road from two miles south of LeGrand to Gilman, using Timber Creek material. The west LeGrand experiment proved a success, with road engineers praising the stone’s durability, prompting expanded similar work. The Cozzi quarry area offers abundant stone. a LeGrand proposal would repurpose the bank west of the road with digging cost, hauling already pledged at eighty six loads.

Juniors Entertain Seniors at High School Banquet
Senior class members were toasted by Juniors at the annual banquet held in the high school dining room decorated in class colors and motto Be Square. Four freshman girls served as waitresses, with toasts by Junior president Carl Rylander and Senior president Marvel Wells, followed by faculty toasts and gym games. A separate note reports a late fire three miles south of Le Grand destroying the Capt Enge farm house, owned by Mrs Kjormoe’s mother, Mrs S A Hatem, with heavy losses.

County Attorney A B Hoover announces his bid for re election on the Republican ticket to succeed himself after his present term. Born October 28 1870 he grew up on a farm and has lived in Marshalltown since 1894. He served eighteen years as official court reporter while studying law and has since devoted his full time to the office. He notes 110 district court criminal disposals and 900 municipal court cases since 1920 with notable convictions including Garfield Devine for assault with intent to murder J H Gongbenour for manslaughter and several arrestees for arto thefts with pleas of guilty in highway robbery cases.
