Classen for Senator in This Issue of Reporter

John B. Classen announces his candidacy for senator from this county in the republican primary on June 5. A Civil War veteran, he served two terms in the house and one in the senate, chaired key committees, and helped curb excess pension funds to the Jews Soldiers Home. He has long county ties, banking directorships, and led the Marshall County Fair association.

Bond Issue Carries In Heavy Vote Despite Bad Weather

A Marshalltown bond election posted 259 votes with 204 in favor and 53 against. Men cast 149 ballots (119 for, 39 against) and women 110 (94 for, 16 against). Also announced: Charles Hurd, a 13 year Marshalltown police veteran, seeks the Republican sheriff nomination. He is 62, Wisconsin native, longtime resident, and former bakery and restaurant worker. He has been an Odd Fellow for 27 years.

Motion by Keen and second by Adair to receive bids by the first Monday in June for road work by the hour and dragging by the mile. Council may reject all bids. Jones for Supervisor Nomination Seeks Republican Primary

W A Jones of Marshall towns announces candidacy for county supervisor to begin January 1 1917. A former board member and 1911 mayor, he cites businesslike public administration and past efforts including recovering about 5000 in neglected funds. He favors good roads and bridges though tax payers may resist hard surface projects.
