The LeGrand Consolidated School District invites bids for driving back routes for 1928 29. Bids must reach the secretary by May 10, with the board reserving right to accept or reject any or all bids. New Quarry Opens Near Town With Busy Preparations

Dickinson-Stark Co. of Des Moines unloaded machinery including a Fordson tractor and Sullivan air compressor for the Devil's Anvil quarry on the George Coffin place east of town. Eight or ten men work to open a road, build houses, and dig wells as crews prepare to surface 12,000 yards of stone for the Montour Gilman road. The quarry plans day and night operation this summer once the crusher arrives.

Christian Church Schedule and Mission Circle Notes

The Christian Church offers a full day with church school at 10 a.m. led by Supt. Mrs. Mary Higinbotham, morning worship at 11, Christian Endeavor at 7 p.m. led by Mabel Gaunt, and an 8 p.m. evening service. The Mission Circle met Thursday with Miss Della Richards. devotional led by Mrs. Herbert. lesson by Mrs. Kelloge. discussions on current events for peace. letters read from Porto Rico, Haverhill Mass., and the Franklinton, N.C. colored school. Social hour followed with refreshments. Prayer Circle Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and church business meeting afterward. All are welcome.

County Convention of Women’s Clubs Held in LeGrand High Gym

The Marshall County Convention of Women’s Clubs met at LeGrand High School gym hosted by the Ladies Literary and Musical Club under county chair Mrs. H O Hyatt. Reports from county clubs followed a luncheon and a postponed tree planting ceremony as a Norway spruce was presented to the school and town for a living Christmas tree. The afternoon featured a business session, an all county chorus, a farce, and a keynote by Mrs Eugene Heneley on The Club and the Home, with visitors from Grinnell Vinton Toledo Tama and State Committee Woman of Education.

About thirty rock ribbed Republicans met at the town hall Saturday night per Committeeman Ogier’s call. Four delegates were named to attend the county convention: C. B. Adair, C. W. Johnson, Max Radloff, and G. C. Ogier. Nominations included C. W. Kelloge for justice of the peace, Jonas Olson for constable, F. H. Nuese as trustee for 1929, Ed Harem as trustee for 1930, J. F. Smaha township clerk, I. F. Rubenbauer assessor, B. H. Beane committeeman, and Mrs. H. C. Herbert committeewoman.
