Des Moines financiers led by I H Lowderbaugh closed an option on the Cal Daugherty 53 acre farm just north of LeGrand on May 1. The purchase ties to the Cozzi quarry holdings, with plans for a large scale operation and a possible new bridge over the Iowa River. The Northwestern Gravel Company, with pits across northwestern Iowa, signals major expansion including a switch to the quarry and ongoing construction near Quimby.

The junior class staged two short plays at the LeGrand consolidated school gym last Friday evening with numerous musical numbers. The program featured solos by Martha Tweet and Martha Earhart and several instrumental numbers. A large audience enjoyed the event, with receipts totaling $79.00.

The Green Mountain team faced Rylander at LeGrand last Friday and could not overcome left handed pitching by Rasmus. LeGrand started strong and held on for a 9 to 3 win. A return game was played with Gilman at Gilman on Thursday, LeGrand winning 14 to 10. Other notes include local names: R. D. Hogan, R. M. Tweet in Cedar Rapids on business, A. L.
